Nurse's Corner

Our Nurse is Ms. Kimberly Goodly, R.N., and her Clinic Aide is Ms. Latres Polk.  In the event that medication must be administered at school, the medication must be furnished by the parent and turned in to the clinic with proper documentation.

Nurse Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide first aid in emergencies

  • Notify parent/guardian when a child can no longer remain in class and needs to be sent home due to an injury, illness, or a communicable disease/infection

  • Assist students to learn proper health and hygiene practice

  • Notify parents/guardians if a doctor or dentist visit is recommended

  • Administer medication required during the school day

All medication must:

  • be in the original container

  • be properly labeled

  • be accompanied by a signed written request. Over-the-counter medication notes must be signed by the parent/guardian; prescription medication notes must be signed by BOTH the parent/guardian and the physician prescribing the medication.  The request must have proper identification of medication, the amount to be administered, the time(s) it is to be given, and the length of time the student will be taking the medication.

Students may NOT keep any type of medication with them in class, including cough drops.  Any exceptions must be approved by the principal with written notes from the parent/guardian and the child's doctor, or the school nurse may make an exception on a temporary basis when unusual circumstances exist.

A doctor's authorization is required for any of the following:

  • Any over-the-counter medication given for more than 10 school days

  • Any prescription drug

  • Emergency medications kept in hand; i.e., inhalers, epi-kits(physician instruction required)

  • A yearly renewal of doctor's authorization is required for all long-term medications; i.e., inhalers, epi-kits, controlled medications, etc...

For the protection of all students, a child with ANY of the following illnesses will not be allowed to remain in school, and the parent/guardian will be notified to come pick up their child immediately.

  • fever of 100.0 or more

  • suspected contagious disease

  • vomiting

  • diarrhea

  • cannot remain comfortably in class

  • undetermined rash

If your child has any of these above symptoms before coming to school, please keep him/her at home.  Your child should be free of fever for 24 hours without any medication prior to returning to school.  When contacted by the school to pick up your child, it is important that you pick them up as soon as possible.  Any release from school must have the verbal consent of the parent/guardian.  Please be sure to keep an updated/current phone number on file and notify the clinic of any changes.  It is important if your child is sick that we are able to reach you.

Please contact the clinic regarding any changes in the health status of your child.  We look forward to working with you and your children to keep them safe and healthy.
